Appreciation: Agnes Melillo

Agnes Mellillo, who went to meet the Risen Lord on Thursday 15th May 2025, has left an indelible mark through her dedication and contribution to the Parish community.

Her voluntary contribution  towards the Parish goes back many years.  She started her involvement as a Secretary on a roster basis together with other volunteers.

Her commitment extended further as a member in the Diaconia Commission, eventually serving as its Chairperson.  Her willingness and enthiusiasm to organise and undertake any task needed were truly admirable.  Amongst her many roles, she looked after the distribution of EU food to eligible families, invited experts for talks for widows and widowers and organised and invited the families of the deceased to an annual Mass in November for parishioners who passed away during the previous year.

In 2016, Agnes decided to step down from her leadership position but still continued to serve as Vice Chairperson and Treasurer.  Agnes always participated actively in the preparation of hampers for Easter, the Parish Feast and Christmas. This is a major and arduous task for all the members of the Diaconia Commission and all the members do with great enthiusiasm, love and commitment. Agnes helped out as best as she could even when her health was declining.

As a treasurer,  she meticulously managed the Diaconia Commission’s finances including the funds from monthly Group Ħbiberija outings supporting families in need.

Her artistic skill helped in preparing individually packed gift boxes, for the Christmas Tree and crafting Easter Egg models to hang on an Easter Tree both indicating items required to support families in need.

She also used to help out with flower arrangements in the parish church up to a few years ago.

Despite her age and her relocation to Balzan, Agnes continued to participate wholeheartedly in the work of the Diaconia Commission, demonstrating her unwavering love and eagerness to serve.

Agnes was known for her wisdom, diplomacy and empathitic approach in reaching out to those in need. Her opinions and advice were always offered with kindness and integrity, making her an invaluable asset to the community. Her generosity, hard work and compassionate spirit have touched many lives.

May Agnes now enjoy eternal peace and reward in her heavenly home. Her family, relatives and friends and her colleagues within the Diaconia Commission will cherish her memory forever.

Her funeral Mass will take place on Monday, 19th May, at 830am at Balzan Parish Church.
